Alvaro Saborio's late strike vs. the New York Red Bulls may not have stood as the winner, but it was a thing of beauty.
Saborio's final goal in his hat-trick performance during a wild 4-3 loss to the Red Bulls this past weekend claimed Week 22's AT&T Goal of the Week award on Friday, earning approximately 45 percent of the vote.
The Costa Rican international claimed the honors with stunning chip that looked to be the game-winner in the 82nd minute of last Saturday's seven-goal thriller. He lofted a shot from the top of the penalty area past a soaring Luis Robles and into the top corner of the net before New York scored twice in the dying moments.
Dax McCarty's 94th-minute winner in that same game at Red Bull Arena came in second place in this week's voting with about 19 percent, but it was never really close to threatening Saborio's superb strike.
Final Votes - Week 22 (online poll and text vote):
1. Alvaro Saborio (RSL): 44.61%
2. Dax McCarty (NY): 19.12%
3. Blake Smith (MTL): 17.01%
4. Andrew Wiedeman (TOR): 13.95%
