AMSTERDAM – The agent for Bursaspor loan star Maurice Edu says his client is aiming to establish with parent club Stoke City next season under new manager Mark Hughes.
As previously reported by MLSsoccer.com, Bursaspor have initiated talks to acquire the fast fan favorite on a permanent transfer. Edu managed just one Premier League appearance during the first half of last season under erstwhile Potters boss Tony Pulis.
But with Hughes at the reins, the US international wants another crack at making his name with the Britannia side. The new Stoke coach previously showed interest in acquiring Edu while in charge of Queens Park Rangers last summer.
"Mark Hughes has just been appointed, so there will be discussions with him next week," Edu's agent, Lyle Yorks, told MLSsoccer.com. "Mo's first choice would be to stay and fight for a place at Stoke."
Edu's six-month Bursaspor loan spell will officially end on June 30. The 27-year-old excelled in 13 matches with the Green Crocodiles, helping them grab fourth place in Süper Lig and the Europa League third qualifying round berth that comes along with it.
Edu had most recently been called in for US men's national team duty, but had to withdraw from the roster that will play in two friendlies and three World Cup qualifiers over the span of a few weeks after being diagnosed with a sports hernia.
