AMSTERDAM – Jozy Altidore's fine Eredivisie season was capped on Tuesday by his becoming the first American named to the Dutch league's Team of the Season.
The honors are handed out every spring by De Telegraaf, the country's most-read newspaper.

Altidore was named after an AZ Alkmaar season that saw him set an American exports record for league goals in a season with 23, as well as adding five assists. The power forward also led AZ to their first KNVB Cup crown in 31 years with a tourney-high eight goals, including the winner against favored final opponent PSV Eindhoven.
With Altidore making the list, it also marked just the second time that Americans overseas had earned such a top-flight honor in consecutive seasons since Tim Howard succeeded Brad Friedel on the PFA Premier League Team of the Season in 2004. Last term, Hønefoss netminder Steve Clark earned the salutation in Norway's Tippeligaen.
