With just a few weeks remaining until the kickoff of the 2013 season, the New York Red Bulls aren't done revamping their midfield.
On Monday, the Red Bulls acquired versatile Portland Timbers midfielder Eric Alexander in exchange for allocation money. Alexander, who is two-footed and has played every midfield position during his MLS career, is entering his fourth season with his third different club.

The Indiana University product started out with FC Dallas, who drafted him No. 44 overall in 2010. His rookie season, which coincided with FC Dallas' run to the MLS Cup final, earned him a call-up and eventual international cap for the US national team under Bob Bradley.
In August 2011, the Michigan native was traded to Portland, where he played 30 matches for the Timbers and registered six assists.
The New York Red Bulls have already made significant moves in the middle of the park during the offseason, acquiring Brazilian creative midfielder Juninho Pernambucano, Spaniard Ruben Izquierdo and re-signing Dax McCarty. They also drafted six midfielders in the 2013 SuperDraft and Supplemental Draft: Ian Christianson (Georgetown), Ryan Clark (Monmouth), Michael Bustamante (Boston University), Ben Fisk (Washington), Marc Cintron (Providence), Stephane Diop (Connecticut) and Andrew Ribeiro (Creighton).
In New York, Alexander is reunited former FC Dallas teammates Heath Pearce and McCarty.
