Luis Gil's first MLS goal against the New York Red Bulls earned the fan vote as the AT&T Goal of the Week for Week 21.
Thanks to a late surge in text voting, the 17-year-old handily won the vote, capturing 44 percent of the ballots and beating out another solid candidate in Brian Mullan's stunning blast (20 percent) that found the upper 90 against Columbus.
Gil delivered a knockout blow to the Red Bulls just before halftime when he collected a ball that was intercepted by RSL captain Kyle Beckerman. With his back to goal, he made a quick turn before firing a low, right-footed drive from 20 yards that beat Red Bulls goalkeeper Frank Rost to the far right post.
The award is the second for a Real Salt Lake player this season and the first for Gil. Teammate Jean Alexandre, who lined up at forward for a few matches earlier this season, was also rewarded for his first career MLS goal when he captured the award in Week 12.
