Carlos Ruiz opened the scoring for the Philadelphia Union in their 3-0 win over the New England Revolution, and his high-flying effort earned him the AT&T Goal of the Week for Week 18.
In the 11th minute at Gillette Stadium, Ruiz played a flick-on header to a streaking Justin Mapp down the right side which started a brilliant build-up by the Union attack. Mapp danced his way to the end line before chipping a ball to the back post and finding the head of Keon Daniel. He sent his header right back in front of goal where an unmarked Ruiz volleyed home the high pass from just inside the six-yard-box.
The award is the second one of the year for the Union, as Ruiz took home the honor in Week 10 as well. He earned 44 percent of the vote this week, easily handling runner-up Álvaro Fernández of the Sounders.
Philadelphia fans came out and voted well for Ruiz, and there was again a record-breaking number of text votes. 24 percent of all tallies cast this week were made from mobile devices.
