MLS clubs waive players ahead of deadline

With a contract deadline looming for several players, MLS clubs began to waive players.

D.C. United waived midfielder Junior Carreiro, who made three appearances for the club. The 19-year-old joined the club in September 2010. His older brother, Fred, recently departed United to rejoin Australian side Melbourne Victory.

The Houston Dynamo waived defender Jordan Graye. The 24-year-old, acquired from the Portland Timbers in December, did not appear in an MLS league match, though he did see time in a US Open Cup qualifier in April.

The Chicago Fire let go of rookie midfielder Davis Paul. The 22-year-old University of California product saw only 45 minutes of action this season, against the LA Galaxy on April 17.

Clubs have until 5 pm ET on Thursday to claim players off waivers, based on their order in the waiver list.
