Eric Hassli’s 85th-minute equalizer against Seattle not only gave Vancouver a much-needed point on the road, but it also took home top honors as the AT&T Goal of the Week for Week 13.
It was the sixth goal of the season for the Frenchman, whose right-footed blast is an early candidate for Goal of the Year. After intercepting an errant pass from the Sounder's Osvaldo Alonso and chipping it up in the air, Hassli hit a majestic volley across his body from the right side of the box. The ball swerved and dipped its way into the top left side of the goal and past the outstretched arms of a helpless Kasey Keller.
The goal, which received more than half the votes, finished first in one of the more lopsided polls of the campaign so far. Hassli, who easily outdid second-place finisher Thierry Henry by nearly 40 percent, was the clear favorite in a week that featured the strongest nominees to date.
