The nickname “the left-footed David Beckham” is beginning to stick.
It’s about time for the Houston Dynamo's Brad Davis, who earned the first Player of the Month award of his 10-year MLS career as the North American Soccer Reporters voted him the league's top performer in April.
The 29-year-old midfielder has carried his preseason form into the start of the regular season for Houston, helping the Dynamo go undefeated in April with a 3-0-2 record. That run was led in large part by his league-high six assists, two of them proving to be game-winners.
In fact, Davis had a hand in seven of the 10 goals that the Dynamo scored in April, finding a new target in rookie standout forward Will Bruin. The 6-foot-2 striker was on the receiving end of two Davis crosses which he headed home against D.C. United on April 29 on his way to the first hat trick in MLS during 2011.

The Player of the Month award for Davis coincides with the fact that he wore the captain’s armband for the Dynamo in all but nine minutes in April with regular captain Brian Ching shelved due to injury.
Davis and the Dynamo, who dropped a 2-1 home result to Colorado on Wednesday in their first match of May, next head to Canada to face Toronto FC on Saturday, May 7 at BMO Field (7 pm ET, Direct Kick and MatchDay Live).
