It’s been a good week for the Seattle Sounders. The team came out on the right side of a 3-2 goal-fest with Toronto FC last Saturday before winning their second straight US Open Cup on Tuesday. On Friday, Steve Zakuani won the AT&T Goal of the Week.
Zakuani’s goal against the Reds leveled the contest at 1-1 in the 21st minute. The speedy striker held level with Toronto’s backline just long enough for Osvaldo Alonso to play him through with a clever through-ball. Handily beating the defense, Zakuani had only the 'keeper Stefan Frei to beat, which he did in style with a sharp cut before cooly finishing in front of a packed house in Seattle.
The London native won the award with nearly two-thirds of the vote, followed by Philadelphia Union striker Sebastien Le Toux’s golazo against the Houston Dynamo.
- Steve Zakuani 65.71%
- Sebastien Le Toux 19.91%
- David Beckham 8.4%
- Edson Buddle 4.95%
- Jack McInerney 1.04%
