KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Sierre Leone will take on South Africa in Freetown this Sunday, but one player who won’t be joining the squad is Kansas City Wizards forward Kei Kamara.
Kamara, who started for the Leone Stars in a 1-1 draw against Egypt in September, received a letter from the federation following that game informing him that he had been suspended for two games for alleged criticism of the federation and national team manager.
“I’m not on good terms with the people from the federation back home,” Kamara said in an interview with MLSsoccer.com.
The suspension means Kamara, the Wizards' leading scorer with 10 goals, is available for the match on Saturday against the visiting Seattle Sounders. For all intents and purposes, Kansas City must win to keep their playoff hopes alive.
Kamara, who has been vocal about the issue on his Twitter account, has five caps with his home nation, which is currently attempting to qualify for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations to be held in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.
