Seattle Sounders forward Fredy Montero was the runaway winner of the AT&T Goal of the Week award for Week 5.
The Colombian’s stunning free kick from 40 yards against FC Dallas last Thursday night earned him 43 percent of the fan vote. Colorado Rapids veteran midfielder Pablo Mastroeni came in second with 25 percent of the ballots. Peter Lowry, Sacha Kljestan and Marko Perovic finished well behind the pace.
Montero’s blast in the 55th minute was Seattle’s second of the night at Pizza Hut Park and nearly held up as the game-winner had it not been for a last-minute penalty converted by FC Dallas to equalize. The former Deportivo Cali man sent a hard curling drive that went over the defensive wall and past FCD goalkeeper Dario Sala into the top left corner of the goal. It was his second goal of the season.
