Rio Tinto to host Kenny Chesney concert

Utah's state-of-the-art Rio Tinto Stadium is proud to welcome reigning Country Music Entertainer of the Year Kenny Chesney to the world-class venue on Thursday, July 23, 2009 at 5:30 p.m. MT. Chesney's "Sun City Carnival" Tour also features recently-minted 2009 Grammy award-winners Sugarland and Lady Antebellum, as well as fiery vocalist Miranda Lambert. Tickets are available at four price levels, depending on seat location, beginning at just $29. Other ticket price points are $49, $79 and $125.

Chesney, the proud son of Luttrell, Tenn., who was recognized by Pollstar as the #1 ticket-seller of 2008, gears up for another summer in the sun, while his "Sun City Carnival" tour is currently slated for 50 dates across America through mid-September. Rio Tinto Stadium's 25,000-seat concert capacity ranks among the larger venues this tour for Chesney, the man who has enlivened the summer for more than 1,000,000+ fans each of the last seven years.

"We're gonna try to mix it up again this year," Chesney says of the variety of venues. "We've got a bunch of football stadiums - because that is an experience like no other, but we're also going to do some amphitheatres and arenas... and knowing us, we'll probably pop up in a bar or honky tonk or two along the way. What's important is getting out there, and bringing the music to life. That's so much a part of who I am, and what I do.... And I'm ready."

On Saturday, February 21 at 10 AM, tickets go on sale to the general public via www.RioTintoStadium.com or (888) 477-5849, while the Stadium's west-side ticket windows open Monday, February 23 at 10 AM for in-person purchases. Tickets go on sale Tuesday, February 17 at 10 AM exclusively to Real Salt Lake season ticket holders for 96+ hours. RSL season ticket holders will receive specific information regarding their processes. The Kenny Chesney performance kicks off a week-long "Days of '47" celebration at Rio Tinto Stadium, as Real Salt Lake hosts FC Dallas and a post-game fireworks show on Pioneer Day, Friday, July 24, and the Stadium then becomes the home of Major League Soccer's annual All-Star Game on Wednesday, July 29.

Since 1993, Chesney has recorded 13 albums, 11 of which have been certified gold or higher by the RIAA. He has also produced more than 30 Top Ten singles on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs charts, 15 of which reached Number One. In addition, Chesney has received six Academy of Country Music (ACM) awards (including four consecutive Entertainer of the Year honors), as well as six CMA awards. Chesney is also one of the most popular touring acts in country music, regularly selling out the venues at which he performs; his 2007 Flip-Flop Summer Tour was the highest-grossing country road trip of 2007. He was awarded his 4th consecutive ACM Entertainer of the Year award on May 18, 2008. The Sun City Carnival, a tour designed to capture the freewheeling, carefree spirits that mark Chesney's time off the road. With a whole new stage being built, an even more powerful sound system being designed and video shot especially for the evening, this will be both an intimate and far more intense way to experience the high energy performer.

Chesney's most recent album - Lucky Old Sun - debuted at #1 on Billboard's all-genre Top 200 Albums and generated the two-week #1 single "Everybody Wants To Go To Heaven," and also boasts the Top 10 and climbing duet with Mac McAnally "Down The Road."
