Charlotte FC signed American defender Nick Scardina on Feb. 24, 2023, following a successful preseason with the First Team. Scardina was originally acquired via the 2023 MLS SuperDraft and was selected with the No. 40 overall pick.
Scardina spent the majority of the 2024 season getting game reps with the Club’s MLS NEXT Pro affiliate, Crown Legacy FC, where he scored six goals and contributed the second-most assists on the team with five across 18 total appearances. For CLTFC, he made his MLS debut off the bench on July 13 in a 3-1 win over reigning Supporters’ Shield champions FC Cincinnati.
In Scardina’s rookie season in 2023, he spent the entirety of the year with Crown Legacy FC en route to a first-place finish in the Eastern Conference. Scardina featured in 25 matches, all being starts, and scored three goals while finishing tied second in the squad in assists with four. He made his debut with the Club on March 26 against Huntsville City FC.
Prior to being selected in the MLS SuperDraft, Scardina had a four-year career at the University of Washington. The defender helped the Huskies to a runner-up finish at the 2021 NCAA College Cup and in 2022 he was named to the Pac-12 All-Conference First Team after appearing in all 20 matches in his senior year. He finished his collegiate career with 60 matches played, 18 goals and seven assists for Washington. The Portland native came up through the Portland Timbers Academy and made his professional debut with Portland Timbers 2 in the USL Championship on June 26 against Reno 1868 FC.
2024 (Charlotte FC): MLS Regular Season – Featured in one match, making his MLS debut as a substitute in the Club’s 3-1 win over FC Cincinnati on July 13. (Crown Legacy FC): MLS NEXT Pro Regular Season – Appeared in 16 matches, all being starts, totaling 1,373 minutes. Scored six times, tying him for third on the team in goals scored. Notched four assists, good for second-most on the team. Third in the squad in key passes with 31. MLS NEXT Pro Playoffs – Featured in both of the Club’s playoff matches. Recorded an assist in the Eastern Conference Semifinal matchup at Philadelphia Union II.
2023 (Crown Legacy FC): MLS NEXT Pro Regular Season – Made 25 appearances, all being starts, totaling 2,226 minutes. Made his Club debut on March 26 against Huntsville City FC. Added three goals. Tied for second on the team in assists (four) and key passes (27). Finished second in the squad in clearances (44) and successful crosses (24). MLS NEXT Pro Playoffs – Appeared and started in the Club’s first playoff match against Columbus Crew 2.
