Career Summary

A strong winger with plenty of technical ability on the ball, Levonte Johnson was selected 29th overall by Whitecaps FC in the 2023 MLS SuperDraft from Syracuse University and then signed with the club's MLS NEXT Pro side Whitecaps FC 2 (WFC2).

In June 2023, Johnson signed an MLS contract with the first team through 2023, with club options for 2024 and 2025.

WHITECAPS FC

'24: In his second season as a member of the first team, Johnson made 11 starts and 34 appearances across all competitions. The native of Brampton, Ontario tallied three goals, scoring a brace in the first leg of the TELUS Canadian Championship at Cavalry FC on May 7 and notching the second goal of the ‘Caps 3-1 win over LIGAMX side Club Tijuana on August 3 in Leagues Cup play.

'23: After being selected 29th overall by the ‘Caps in the 2023 MLS SuperDraft, Johnson started off the season as a member of the club’s MLS NEXT Pro side Whitecaps FC 2 (WFC2) and recorded seven goal contributions (six goals, one assist) in his first 10 appearances for the side. During that stretch, Johnson signed four MLS short-term agreements with the first team. His second call-up came in May for the club’s Canadian Championship quarterfinal match at York United FC, where he made his first team debut as a second half substitute and scored in the 88th minute - becoming the club’s second MLS NEXT Pro product to score on his first team debut. Johnson’s third call-up saw him make his MLS debut off the bench in the club’s away match at St. Louis CITY SC on May 27. In his fourth call-up, Johnson started the Canadian Championship Final and played 73 minutes en route to helping the ’Caps win their second consecutive Voyageurs Cup. His performance in the Final was followed up with the signing of his first team contract on June 30. All in all, Johnson made four starts and 11 appearances with the first team in 2023, while tallying seven goals as well as an assist in 13 starts and 15 appearances for WFC2.

COLLEGE

'19-'22: During his time at Syracuse, Johnson scored 11 goals and added six assists across 25 starts for Syracuse in the 2022 season, helping the side win the NCAA Division I National Championship. Johnson was one of three MAC Hermann Trophy finalists and was named to the United Soccer Coaches First Team All-America, All-ACC First Team, and All-South Region First Team. Prior to joining Syracuse, Johnson recorded nine goals, eight assists in 20 starts and 22 appearances with Seattle University in 2021. In addition, Johnson previously spent time with Salt Lake Community College in his sophomore year, starting 16 of his 18 appearances and recording 11 goals as well as 10 assists. In his freshman year, the forward added 10 goals and four assists for Eastern Florida State College.

'21: Johnson played for Portland Timbers U-23 in USL League Two in 2021, tallying a goal in seven appearances.
