John Rooney

A box-to-box midfielder, Rooney was selected by the Red Bulls in the second round of the 2011 MLS SuperDraft. He is one of the few rookies in the league with international experience, as the 20-year old Englishman spent three seasons at Macclesfield Town of England’s League Two. The Liverpool-born Rooney will look to make his mark in the States and will challenge for playing time in 2011.

Professional:
2009-10: Played in 25 matches for Macclesfield Town of England League Two. Statred 14 games and registered a goal. Also played in six games for Macclesfield Town reserves. In Feburary of 2010, went on trial with Championship side Derby County, and in July of 2010 took part in preseason training with Huddersfield Town of League One.

2008-09: Started in 10 games out of 14 overall appearances, scoring two goals. Scored first career goal on March 28, 2009 in a 2-1 loss to Dagenham & Redbridge. Played nine games for the reserve side, and scored three goals.

2007-08: Made professional debut for Macclesfield Town on March 24, 2008 against Barnet. Played two matches, starting once.

Collegiate/Club: Was a youth player for hometown club Everton FC.

Personal: Is the younger brother of Manchester United and England Striker Wayne Rooney. Trained with MLS club Seattle Sounders FC in summer of 2010. Favorite film is The Shawshank Redepmtion. Enjoys music by Stereophonics.
