HOW ACQUIRED: Signed on August 15, 2013. Released by Montreal Impact on August 13, 2013.

Iapichino joined the Impact after spending much of his development years with FC Basel, one of the most prestigious clubs in the Swiss first division, playing 29 games with the Under-21 team in 2008-09 and 2009-10.

The Swiss defender was loaned by the club to FC Biel-Bienne for the second half of the 2009-10 season, where he played 12 games in the Challenge League, the country’s second division.

He then joined FC Lugano on loan for the 2010-11 season, playing 25 regular-season games and two Swiss Cup games, alongside current Impact midfielder Felipe. He made a permanent move to Lugano for the 2011-12 season, adding 20 regular-season games and two Swiss Cup games.

Internationally, he took part in six friendly games with the Swiss U-20 national team, including games vs. the Italian U-20 national team and the German U-20 national team.

Iapichino will count as an international player on the Impact roster.

PROFESSIONAL
2011/2012: Started the season with FC Lugano, after completing a permanent transfer from FC Basel… Played 1,455 minutes in 20 games, also playing two Swiss Cup games… Took part in a tryout with the Impact in June, before officially joining the club on July 11… Played seven games, including five starts, in his first season in Major League Soccer… Recorded his first career MLS assist and first point on July 18 against New England… Played 45 minutes in the international match against Olympique Lyonnais on July 24 at Stade Saputo… Also started three MLS Reserve League games, registering one assist.
