A towering center back, Goodson has proven to be a reliable presence in defense throughout his professional career. He was drafted seventh overall by Dallas in the 2004 MLS SuperDraft, following his signing a Project-40 contract. He saw sparse minutes in his rookie season, though locked down a starting spot in 2005, which he kept until his transfer to Norway ahead of the 2008 season. He signed with the Earthquakes in 2013 and has been part of one of the league's most consistent defensive pairings alongside Victor Bernardez ever since.
