Charlotte FC announced the signing of American midfielder and Academy product Brian Romero on Aug. 3, 2022. Romero was the first Homegrown signing in Charlotte FC history and signed through the 2026 season, with an option for 2027.
Romero spent his first two years as a professional with the Club’s MLS NEXT Pro affiliate, Crown Legacy FC. In 2024, Romero appeared in 22 matches and recorded an assist against independent side Chattanooga FC on July 6. During the 2023 campaign, he made 17 appearances, making his professional debut off the bench against Huntsville City FC on March 26.
Romero, a Concord, N.C. native, joined CLTFC’s Academy in 2020 at age 14 from Charlotte Soccer Academy. He began playing with the Club’s U-15 squad and was called up to train with the First Team’s preseason in 2022. Romero appeared off the bench in a friendly match against Premier League giants Chelsea FC, drawing a penalty kick in the final moments that would tie the match at 1-1. He has also made numerous appearances with United States youth national squads.
2024 (Crown Legacy FC): MLS NEXT Pro Regular Season – Appeared in 22 matches, making six starts, totaling 743 minutes. Recorded an assist in a 2-1 victory over Chattanooga FC on July 6. U.S. Open Cup – Appeared and started in the Club’s match against South Carolina United Heat.
2023 (Crown Legacy FC): MLS NEXT Pro Regular Season – Appeared in 17 matches, making three starts, totaling 482 minutes. Made his professional debut on March 26 against Huntsville City FC. Recorded an assist against Atlanta United 2 on May 14.
