Gerrard is one of the most accomplished midfielders of his generation, a true two-way player that can effectively fill a variety of roles on the field. He is most frequently used as a box-to-box central midfielder and is known as much for his goalscoring prowess as his tenacity on both sides of the ball. His powerful long shot allows him to score from any range, and he is a capable passer and free kick taker. Though his physical abilities have started to slip as he reaches his mid-30s, he still figures to be a potent force for the Galaxy in the middle of the park.

INTERNATIONAL: Befitting his status as one of the most storied players of his era, Gerrard has had a long international career with England. He retired from the Three Lions in 2014, after 14 years and 114 caps. In that time, he scored 21 goals, appeared in three World Cups (2006, 2010, 2014), three European Championships (2000, 2004, 2012) and was named to the UEFA Team of the Tournament in Euro 2012.
OUTSIDE MLS: In 17 seasons with Liverpool, the team’s longest-serving captain had made 695 appearances while scoring 180 goals. Perhaps his signature moment for the Reds came in the 2005 Champions League final, when he helped lead Liverpool back from a 3-0 deficit against heavily-favored AC Milan to lift the team's English-record fifth European title. He has also helped Liverpool to the UEFA Cup (2001), UEFA Super Cup (2001, 2005), FA Cup (2001, 2006), FA Community Shield (2006) and League Cup (2001, 2003, 2012).
Individually, he has earned honors such as the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Young Player of the Year (2001), PFA Player of the Year (2006), Football Writers’ Association (FWA) Footballer of the Year (2009), PFA Fans’ Player of the Year (2001, 2009), PFA Team of the Year (2001, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2014), FA England Player of the Year (2007, 2012), UEFA Club Footballer of the Year (2005) and finished third in the voting for FIFA’s Ballon d’Or (2005).
