Central holding midfielder Soni Mustivar was a key find by Sporting Kansas City back in 2015, proving a cog in the lineup in his first two MLS seasons. It will prove fierce competition for a starting spot in 2017.
Mustivar's defensive skills were on display in 2015 when he led MLS with more than six interceptions per 90 minutes played. In 2016 he started 29 of his 30 appearances in all competitions.
INTERNATIONAL: Mustivar has made 11 international appearances for the Haiti men's national team and was named to Haiti's 2016 Copa America Centenario squad.
Prior to making his international debut with Haiti in 2013, Mustivar was a youth international in the French national team system. He represented France at the under-20 level during the 2009 Mediterranean Games, and he holds dual citizenship in both France and Haiti.
OUTSIDE MLS: Mustivar began his professional career as a teenager with SC Bastia in France's Ligue 2 during the 2008-09 season, and made 22 league appearances for the club. Following a loan spell at US Orleans (France), Mustivar moved to FC Petrolul Ploiesti and played three seasons in Romania's Liga I. He recorded 61 appearances in league competition, while also earning eight appearances in the UEFA Europa League. In addition, he started in Petrolul's triumph in the 2012-13 Romanian Cup Final and captained the squad in the 2013 Romanian Supercup.
