Zach Wells to attend U.S. MNT Camp

Zach Wells has been called up to the National Team training camp.

U.S. Soccer announced today that goalkeeper Zach Wells is among 21 players named to the training camp roster in preparation for the U.S. Men's National Team's upcoming game against Mexico. Wells will be at the Los Angeles-based camp with the team through February 3. More than 43,000 tickets have been sold for the showdown with the USA's regional rivals on Feb. 6 in Houston. Kickoff at Reliant Stadium is set for 8 p.m. CT, and the match will be broadcast live on ESPN2 and Univision, as well as on 75 affiliates of the Fútbol de Primera Radio Network. Fans can also follow the game live via ussoccer.com's MatchTracker.

Wells made his first National Team camp in 2006 while playing with Houston Dynamo, making his international debut February 19, 2006 by playing the last 10 minutes in a 4-0 victory over Guatemala. Wells recently returned to the National Team, participating in the camp leading up to the 2-0 U.S. victory over Sweden.

D.C. United acquired Wells in a trade with Houston for Bobby Boswell on December 12, 2007. He joins the Black-and-Red after capturing two straight MLS Cups as a member of the Houston Dynamo. The 26-year old did not see any time between the pipes in 2006, but made four appearances (three starts) during this past season's campaign, earning two shutouts, a goals-against average of 0.32 and compiling a 2-0-1 record. Prior to his time in Houston, the Costa Mesa, CA native spent two seasons with the MetroStars (now known as the New York Red Bulls). While there, he saw time in 19 games (all starts), collected four shutouts and put together a record of 6-6-4. His stay with the MetroStars was highlighted by a 14-save effort in a 0-0 draw with United, June 12, 2005.
