The US national team campers will get their second run-out against outside competition on Tuesday, as they will scrimmage LA Galaxy II of USL PRO at Stanford University.
According to a US Soccer spokesman, the American World Cup hopefuls will play two 60-minute games against the LA Galaxy’s reserve team. Each scrimmage will feature different lineups and all of the 29 players currently in camp will get a run-out. Jermaine Jones is the lone US player who has yet to arrive.
Jurgen Klinsmann said last week that there were several “50-50” position battles all over the US squad. These scrimmages seemingly serve to help Klinsmann whittle down his team to the 23-man World Cup roster that must be submitted to FIFA by June 2.
The US also scrimmaged Stanford’s men’s team this past Saturday. Both that scrimmage and Tuesday’s run-out are closed to media.
The LA Galaxy II will have their full squad for Tuesday’s scrimmage, according to a Galaxy spokesman. “Los Dos” are coming off a 2-1 loss at Sacramento Republic FC on Saturday and remained in Northern California. They are currently in second place in the third-flight USL PRO.
Klinsmann's pre-World Cup camp at Stanford continues until Sunday. The USMNT will then play its first send-off friendly on May 27 vs. Azerbaijan at San Francisco's Candlestick Park.
