There are 24 days until the start of the 2014 World Cup and the inaugural game will take place 7,270 days after the close of the 1994 World Cup, the event which inspired so many of the US players who will be starring in Brazil.
The event planted the seeds of future soccer stardom in Toronto FC's Michael Bradley, who attended his first World Cup game at Giants Stadium in 1994 and watched his favorite Italian players up close and personal at their Pingry School training camp in his native New Jersey. That set the stage for this World Cup moment:
There would've been no Algeria moment without the Slovenia one.
The USA may have finished tops in their World Cup group for the first time ever in 2010, but at one point the Americans were down 2-0 at the break to the smallest country in South Africa.
"At halftime, we were on the plane home," remembers Toronto FC star Michael Bradley, who will once again be a pillar of the US midfield in Brazil 2014. "But we were able to find something and come back."
Bradley capped the comeback with an equalizer in the 82nd minute, which he puts at the top of his list of World Cup moments. The fact that his father was at the helm of the US national team at the time will have made it that much more special.
"In the end we should’ve won," Bradley said about the Maurice Edu goal controversially called back. "But it set the stage for us to win the group and get in to the next round."
