Giorgio Chiellini did everything he could on Tuesday to show referee Marco Rodriguez that Luis Suarez bit him on the shoulder, including showing him the bite marks. It took FIFA to drop the hammer on the Uruguayan striker, banning him for nine games and four months of footballing activities, ending his World Cup.
So Chiellini finally got his wish, right? His reaction a day after the decision is almost as surprising as the original act. Check out this post he put on his personal website:
"Now inside me, there's no feelings of joy, revenge or anger against Suarez for an incident that happened on the pitch and that's done," he writes. He also states that the only anger and disappointment he has is towards the match and not the controversial Uruguayan.
He goes in to talk about Suarez's suspension: "I have always considered unequivocal the disciplinary interventions by the competent bodies, but at the same time, I believe that the proposed formula is excessive."
The veteran Italian defender will look to put Italy's group-stage departure behind him and capture a third straight Serie A title for Juventus in 2014-15.
