According to Ghana international Andre Ayew, there's a saying they have in Ghana: "There are no two without three."
Perhaps he meant "things happen in threes?" Regardless of the wording, the message is that the Black Stars are pretty confident they are destined to beat the US for the third time in a World Cup when they meet in a Group G match on Monday (6 pm ET).
"We want to try to beat them for the third time. We know it's going to be very difficult," Ayew told reporters. "They are prepared, but we are a also prepared. So we are not thinking about what the USA side will do. I believe in our players. I believe in the group and I know that if we are fit and if we are all 100 percent, there's no way we're not going to win this game."
Ayew, an Olympique Marseille attacker who typically lines up on the left wing for Ghana, may have just given the US team some juicy bulletin board material ahead of Monday. Except for the fact that US midfielder Jermaine Jones basically made the same exact statement in the lead-up.
“If everybody works for the team and does what they have to do, then I’m 100 percent sure that we will win that game,” Jones said.
There's one thing we can all be 100 percent about: Both Jones and Ayew won't be right come Monday night.
