Luis Suarez aside, there are not many players whose image has taken a bigger hit at this World Cup than Netherlands star Arjen Robben.
Despite a handful of stellar performances in the early matches, accusations of diving and embellisment (some unfounded) soured fans and led to Robben being ridiculed on social media. But on Wednesday public sentiment about Robben probably shifted dramatically. And he has his son to thank.
After the Netherlands lost their World Cup semifinal to Argentina on penalty kicks, Robben approached his wife, Bernadien Eillert, and son, Luka, in the stands and the cameras caught his little one sobbing unconsolably in his mother's arms.
And while many of us were choking up at home, Robben remained stoic as he turned his back on his family to head back to the locker room.
