World Cup: American referee Mark Geiger continues his run in Brazil for Italy vs. Uruguay

Referee Mark Geiger

Mark Geiger's run at the World Cup continues.

The American referee was assigned as a fourth official for Tuesday's decisive Italy vs. Uruguay matchup in Natal. He'll assist Mexican referee Marco Antonio Rodriguez.

And while other officials have been sent home -- like the assistant referee who flagged two Mexico goals for non-existent offside calls against Cameroon -- Geiger earned high marks for his officiating of Spain vs. Chile and Colombia vs. Greece as head referee.

Canadian Joe Fletcher, who was memorably left hanging in a pregame ceremony during this World Cup, is one of three MLS assistant referees who are in Brazil with Geiger. Sean Hurd (reserve assistant referee for Italy vs. Uruguay) and Eric Boria are the others.

Boria will be involved in the Japan vs. Colombia match later Tuesday.
