Wondolowski looking to ignite Quakes-LAFC rivalry in quest for record

Chris Wondolowski tight shot vs. SEA

The quest is still on for #WondoWatch, and the next opportunity to make history comes on Saturday for Chris Wondolowski.

The striker's San Jose Earthquakes will host LAFC on Saturday afternoon (3:30 pm ET | Univision, Twitter — Full TV & streaming info). While the Quakes are still looking for their first competitive win under head coach Matias Almeyda, Wondolowski remains stuck on 144 goals scored all-time in MLS, just one off tying Landon Donovan's record.

The match is one of two NoCal vs. SoCal matchups in MLS. And while the Quakes' history with the LA Galaxy in the "California Clasico" is well-documented, Wondolowski made it clear that for San Jose to really stoke a rivalry with LAFC, they need to eventually get the better of the Southern California side now in its second year in the league:

After LAFC posted two wins in the first and only meetings of 2018, including a wild 4-3 victory in San Jose last June, the forward feels it's up to the Quakes to respond next.

"It definitely ignites this rivalry, but for us we have to win for it to start being a rivalry, that's first and foremost," he said.
