"This is not a joke."
Those were the first words by actor and comedian Will Ferrell as new LAFC co-owner. The celebrity was introduced by soccer legend Mia Hamm during the Thursday press conference where the newest LA club's badge and colors were unveiled.
Ferrell joins an ownership group that features several well-known names, including Hamm, her husband Nomar Garciaparra, Henry Nguyen, Peter Guber, Tom Penn, Vincent Tan, Tony Robbins and Earvin "Magic" Johnson. See the full LAFC ownership group here.
While Ferrell is not foreign to the soccer scene -- there's his 2005 movie Kicking and Screaming, an occasional charity soccer match and even a surprise appearance at the American Outlaws' World Cup party in Recife -- the ownership experience is going to be a new one for him.
"I've never been a partowner of anything," he said. "I'm still a part-owner of a 1984 Toyota camry with my brother."
