Werder book Pokal final place in pens

Werder

Goalkeeper Tim Wiese's penalty shoot-out heroics sent Werder Bremen into the DFB Pokal final after a 1-1 draw with north German rivals Hamburg.

Wiese saved from Jerome Boateng, Ivica Olic and Marcel Jansen as Bremen won the shoot-out 3-1 to book a final meeting with Bayer Leverkusen.

Defender Per Mertesacker put Bremen ahead in the 11th minute, but Olic levelled for Martin Jol's men midway through the second half.

Hamburg were reduced to 10 men in the 90th minute when David Jarolim was sent off, but Bremen could not make the extra man pay in extra time.

The two sides will meet again in the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup.
