Three Real Salt Lake Midfielders Named to Rosters for 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup
Real Salt Lake midfielders Jean Alexandre (Haiti), Will Johnson (Canada), and Andy Williams (Jamaica) have been named to their respective countries' rosters for the upcoming 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup tournament, taking place at venues across the United States from July 3-26. Johnson and Alexandre will depart Utah early this week to join the Canadian and Haitian camps, respectively, while Williams will join the "Reggae Boyz" on Sunday, making him available for RSL's clash against Toronto FC this Saturday. Additional call-up opportunities for Real Salt Lake players could arise later this week, when United States Head Coach Bob Bradley is expected to name the USA's roster for the bi-annual tournament.
The tournament will get underway on Friday, July 3, with a duel between RSL teammates, as Williams' Jamaican squad will take on Johnson and the "Maple Leafs" at The Home Depot Center in Carson, CA (6:00 p.m. MT). Alexandre and the rest of "les Grenadiers" will start their tournament the following day on July 4, in Seattle, taking on Honduras at Qwest Field (2:00 p.m. MT) in the first game of a doubleheader that will conclude with the USA taking on Grenada (4:00 p.m. MT).
RSL Heads North Tonight for Annual Exhibition at Ogden Outlaws
Prior to its League encounter against Toronto FC this weekend, Real Salt Lake will travel north this evening for its annual exhibition contest in Weber County against the Ogden Outlaws of the Premier Development League. Kickoff for tonight's match at St. Joseph's High School, located at 1790 Lake Street in Ogden, is set for 5:30 p.m. MT. Tickets for the exhibition will be available at the gate, costing $8 for adults and $5 for children ages 17-and-under. With bleacher seating at the venue traditionally filling up well before kickoff, fans are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets for the grass seating area available along the sideline. For more information on the match and the Outlaws' current 2009 PDL campaign, please visit www.ogdenoutlaws.com.
Real Salt Lake Returns Home to Welcome Toronto FC on Saturday
After ending a stretch of five out of seven games on the road with last Sunday's 1-1 draw in Houston, Real Salt Lake (4-6-4, 16 pts.) will start a similar stretch of regular season matches at its Rio Tinto Stadium home this Saturday, June 27, when the squad welcomes Toronto FC (5-5-4, 19 pts.) for the Canadian club's lone visit to Utah this season. Kickoff for the match in Sandy, presented by Rio Tinto, is set for 7:30 p.m. MT, with broadcast coverage on KUTV 2.2. Digital / Comcast 111 beginning with the America First Credit Union Pre-match Report at 7:00 p.m. MT. Fans can also follow the action live via RSL's official radio partners: KALL 700 Sports (America First Credit Union Pre-Match Report begins at 6:30 p.m.) and "Ke Buena" 1600-AM.
Real Salt Lake will look to even up the all-time series against Toronto FC on Saturday evening, which RSL trails by a 1-2-1 margin heading into the weekend. RSL and the "Reds" split last year's series by winning at home, Toronto posting a 1-0 win at BMO Field early in the season on April 19, before Real Salt Lake got revenge with a 2-1 result at Rice-Eccles Stadium on July 28. The only other affair in Utah between the two sides marked their first-ever meeting on July 4, 2007, when the Canadians stole the full three points via a 1-0 win over RSL at Rice-Eccles. Real Salt Lake and Toronto will close out their season series with the return match on the shores of Lake Ontario on Oct. 17.
