The Chicago Fire will be all business this weekend for April Fools Day, as the "Men in Red" will open up their 32-game MLS regular season schedule this Saturday, Apr. 1 in a Brimstone Cup showdown against FC Dallas at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, TX. The match, part of MLS First Kick 2006, will be broadcast live nationally on ABC Sports, beginning at 3:00 p.m. CT. Fans can also follow the action locally on radio stations WRTO-AM 1200 (Spanish) and WNVR-AM 1030 (Polish), with those broadcasts also being made available to a worldwide audience via the Fire's official website, www.Chicago-Fire.com.
The Fire and FC Dallas will renew one of the League's most even and established rivalries in Saturday's clash, a series the Fire trails 10-12-1 in MLS regular season play, but is even at 15-15-2 when factoring in all competitions, including MLS Cup Playoff and Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup matches. The Fire is 2-9-0 in regular season play in "Big D" and dropped its first and only contest at the new Pizza Hut Park last Sept. 14 in a 1-0 defeat to FC Dallas in the semifinals of the 2005 U.S. Open Cup. The victory helped FC Dallas win or retain the Brimstone Cup, the trophy awarded annually to the winner of the series by the supporters sections of the two clubs, for a fourth straight season. The Fire last raised the Brimstone Cup in the trophy's inaugural year of 2001, when Chicago won the points-based series (3W, 1T, 0L) by an 11-5 margin on the strength of a 2-0-1 record in the 2001 MLS Cup Quarterfinals.
