SANDY, Utah - Beltran & Nimo Help Generation adidas Squad Wrap up South Africa Sojourn with Victory
Real Salt Lake's DF Tony Beltran and MF Alex Nimo helped Major League Soccer's Generation adidas squad wrap up its week-and-a-half trip to South Africa on a winning note Sunday, as Beltran played the full 90 minutes and Nimo the final half hour in the team's 2-0 victory over the Ajax Cape Town reserve side. Sunday's result gave the Generation adidas group a 2-1-0 record against reserve teams from South Africa's top-flight Premier Soccer League, following a 1-2 defeat against Santos last Wednesday in Cape Town and a 2-0 victory over the Orlando Pirates last Monday in Johannesburg in the trip's opener. Beltran would start and go the distance in all three contests, while Nimo started the match against Santos and came off the bench in the other contests, totaling 113 minutes of action on the trip.
When the Generation adidas expedition was not on the field, the group got the chance to experience plenty of sights and sounds in South Africa, including visits to the former home of President Nelson Mandela, the Apartheid Museum, and Robben Island; taking in the World Cup 2010 Final Draw with locals at the Cape Town Convention Center; and attending the opening of the first FIFA Football for Hope Centre. The squad will return to the United States today, ending a memorable 11-day journey for the group of MLS' top young talent. Shake up Your Winter Break with RSL's Indoor Soccer & Futsal Holiday Tournaments
Real Salt Lake is giving soccer players young and old alike the chance to keep their competitive juices flowing as winter grips the Beehive State, as the Youth Development Program of Utah's MLS side will debut the RSL Holiday Break Soccer Tournaments for indoor soccer and futsal teams, taking place from December 26-January 2.
The RSL Indoor Soccer Holiday Break Tournament will be open for boys and girls teams ranging from U-8 to Adult age groups, with the competition being held at the SportsPlex Field House in Kaysville, located at 1188 SportsPlex Drive (www.spxfieldhouse.com). The RSL Futsal Holiday Break Tournament will be conducted only for U-10 through U-14 age groups for both boys and girls and will be hosted at the International Futsal Academy, located at 158 W. 4800 South in Salt Lake City.
Teams consisting of up to 18 players can register for either competition by filling out an application, which can be found by visiting the "Youth Soccer" section of www.RealSaltLake.com, and submitting a $350 team registration fee, with every team guaranteed to play a minimum of three times in their respective tournament. MLS Cup Trophy Heading to Pair of KFC Restaurants Locations on Wednesday, Dec. 16
Real Salt Lake is bringing the MLS Cup trophy to the masses, as RSL front office representatives and mascot Leo the Lion are giving "RSL Nation" the chance to see the reward for earning Utah's first professional sports title in nearly 40 years up-close and in-person. The tour continues next Wednesday, December 16, when the Philip F. Anschutz Trophy will appear at KFC Restaurants locations in Salt Lake City (3890 S. Real Salt Lake U-6/U-8 Youth Development League's Second Session Kicks off January 9 in Kaysville
The Real Salt Lake Youth Development Program has announced that the second of its six-week U-6 and U-8 Developmental League sessions will begin on Saturday, January 9. The program, designed to encourage and foster growth in young players by introducing basic soccer skills needed to both begin and advance in the game, will run for six consecutive Saturdays through January and mid-February, with all sessions being held at the SportsPlex Field House in Kaysville, located at 1188 SportsPlex Drive (www.spxfieldhouse.com).
The $85 registration fee includes six 60-minute (U-6) or 75-minute (U-8) practices comprised of instructional training by members of the RSL Youth Development coaching staff and 4- to 6-minute quarter games, with each participant also receiving a RSL Developmental League T-shirt. The excitement for the AMSOIL Championship Snocross & Freestyle Series Western Nationals is revving up, as the first event of its kind at Rio Tinto Stadium is set to take place in one month's time on Saturday, January 9, beginning at 7:00 p.m. MT.
