SANDY, Utah - Real Salt Lake Loans FW Tino Nuñez to Harrisburg City Islanders
Real Salt Lake announced today that FW Tino Nuñez will begin a loan stint with the Harrisburg City Islanders of the United Soccer League's Second Division for the remainder of the team's 2009 campaign. The 24-year-old Nuñez, who has made three of his 12 career appearances (two starts) with Real Salt Lake this season, is expected to report to the Pennsylvania side on Thursday and could make his debut for the USL-2 co-leading Islanders (9-4-2) when they play host to the Wilmington Hammerheads (8-4-2) in a pivotal contest this Saturday, July 25. With the temporary change of address, Nuñez becomes the second RSL player to serve on a long-term loan this season along with MF Alex Nimo (Portland Timbers), and is the fifth player overall to be loaned to a USL-based squad in 2009, as MF Jean Alexandre, DF David Horst, and GK Chris Seitz all served at least one weekend stint across the first half of the season.
RSL Continues Pioneer Day Tradition Friday against FC Dallas
Real Salt Lake (5-7-5, 20 pts.) will return home to continue the club's Pioneer Day holiday tradition this Friday, July 24, with an important Western Conference showdown against FC Dallas (4-8-5, 17 pts.) and a post-game fireworks extravaganza, with both being presented by Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Utah. Beckerman Helps USA Advance to Gold Cup Semis; Johnson & Alexandre Bow Out
Real Salt Lake MF Kyle Beckerman continued to turn heads for the U.S. Men's National Team during the CONCACAF Gold Cup last Saturday night, as his 49th minute equalizer against Panama proved crucial in helping the USA to a 2-1 quarterfinal victory at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. Beckerman (7 caps, 1 goal) and his USA teammates will continue the defense of the Gold Cup this Thursday, July 23, with a semifinal showdown against Honduras at Chicago's Soldier Field (6:00 p.m. MT kickoff, live on Fox Soccer Channel & TeleFutura), with a victory qualifying the Red, White & Blue for Sunday's Gold Cup Final at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ (1:00 p.m. MT).
RSL's two other Gold Cup participants, midfielders Will Johnson and Jean Alexandre, saw their tournaments end over the weekend in quarterfinal defeats. Johnson started for the fourth time in as many contests for the Canadian National Team and played 71 minutes in their 0-1 loss to Honduras in Philadelphia on Saturday, while Alexandre's Haitian National Team fell 0-4 to Mexico in a Sunday quarterfinal contest at the new Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Tex. Final 18-Man Roster Set for 2009 MLS All-Star Game at Rio Tinto Stadium
MLS All-Star Team and Houston Dynamo head coach Dominic Kinnear has selected six players to round out the 2009 MLS All-Star Team roster as the final 18-player roster is now set for the clash with Everton FC on Wednesday, July 29 at the home of Real Salt Lake, Rio Tinto Stadium. Kinnear's selections include three members of the Houston Dynamo (Brian Ching, Brad Davis & Pat Onstad), two Seattle Sounders FC players (Jhon Kennedy Hurtado and Fredy Montero) and one Kansas City Wizards player (Davy Arnaud), giving Houston a League-high five players on the 18-man roster. The inactive, or alternate All-Star roster, will be announced at a later date.

RSL Summer Soccer Series Continues Wednesday with Espíndola & Cox in West Jordan
The RSL Summer Soccer Series continues with Wednesday night's FREE clinic at the West Jordan Soccer Complex in West Jordan (4000 West 7800 South) from 6:00-8:00 p.m., when RSL players Fabian Espindola and Raphael Cox will be among the ranks of staffers at the bilingual clinic. Four members of Real Salt Lake - MF Kyle Beckerman, DF Nat Borchers, GK Nick Rimando, and DF Chris Wingert - are joining forces with locally-based G.O.A.L.S. for Greatness with the hopes of "Granting Opportunities Against Life's Struggles," which is the driving force behind the new charitable initiative. G.O.A.L.S. for Greatness has been established to bring assistance and awareness to the men, women, and children in our community who face adverse medical or physical circumstances in their daily lives.
