SHAVAR THOMAS HELPS JAMAICA WIN DIGICEL CARIBBEAN CHAMPIONSHIP:
Chivas USA defender Shavar Thomas and the Jamaican National Team captured the Digicel Caribbean Championship yesterday in Kingston with a 2-0 victory over Grenada. Thomas played 90 minutes and helped keep a clean sheet in the final, while Luton Shelton scored twice - both on penalty kicks - to give the Reggae Boyz the win. Jamaica, along with other Caribbean Championships semifinalists Grenada, Guadeloupe, and Cuba, earned a spot in the 2009 Gold Cup. Thomas has made a total of 14 appearances with the senior Jamaican National Team and has been a part of Jamaica's squad for the Reggae Boyz' last five World Cup Qualifiers.
CHIVAS USA MIDFIELDER JORGE FLORES CALLED INTO U.S. U-20 NATIONAL TEAM CAMP: Jorge Flores, a midfielder for Chivas USA, has joined United States Under-20 National Team head coach Thomas Rongen's 26-player training camp, taking place in Sunrise, Fla., from Dec. 15-22. The training camp will include a pair of scrimmages against CONCACAF foes Haiti on Dec. 20 and Canada on Dec. 22. In 2008, the Anaheim, Calif. native has been with the U.S. U-20's for tournaments including the Copa Chivas (Mexico), the Campos Verdes International Tournament (Portugal), and the Milk Cup (Northern Ireland). In May, Flores was with the team for a pair of games in England against English Premier League reserve teams, where he had a goal and an assist., and in November, Flores played three matches with the team in Spain.
