Weekly update: Crew to host United

The Columbus Crew wraps up a two-game homestand vs. D.C. United on Saturday, May 20, at 7:30 p.m. at Crew Stadium.


The Crew (3-3-1, 10 pts) has won two games in a row and sits tied for 3rd in the Eastern Conference after a 1-0 home win vs. Colorado on Saturday, May 13. Newly acquired midfielder Ned Grabavoy tallied the game-winner in the 74th minute. D.C. is 4-1-2 (14 pts) on the year and sits in first place in the Eastern Conference after a 2-1 home win vs. Kansas City on Saturday, May 13.

CREW MONTHLY PRESS LUNCHEON IS WEDNESDAY, MAY 17, AT 1 P.M. AT BUFFALO WILD WINGS ON BETHEL ROAD
The Crew will hold its monthly press luncheon this Wednesday, May 17, at 1 p.m. at Buffalo Wild Wings Grill & Bar on Bethel Road (5240 Bethel Road). The luncheon will consist of Crew General Manager Mark McCullers, Head Coach Sigi Schmid and Crew players Ned Grabavoy, Joseph Ngwenya, Leo Bisaku and Rusty Pierce. Luncheon news will include an international game announcement, details and schedule for the upcoming World Cup Viewing Parties and other potential news. Buffalo Wild Wings on Bethel Road is the "Official Away Game Headquarters" for all Columbus Crew road games. Crew fans are welcome to attend the monthly press luncheons.

CREW RESERVES FALL, 3-2, TO COLORADO RESERVES ON SUNDAY AT OBETZ
The Crew Reserves (0-4-0) lost, 3-2, to the Colorado Rapids Reserves (3-0-0) on Sunday, May 14, at The Crew training facility at Obetz. Knox Cameron and Eric Vasquez tallied the goals for Columbus.


NED GRABAVOY AND JOSEPH NGWENYA MAKE IMPACT IN WIN AFTER ARRIVING IN COLUMBUS JUST OVER 13 HOURS BEFORE GAME TIME
The Crew acquired midfielder Ned Grabavoy and midfielder/forward Joseph Ngwenya on Friday, May 12, from Los Angeles and the pair paid immediate dividends in helping Columbus to a 1-0 win over Colorado on Saturday, May 13.


Grabavoy and Ngwenya caught a direct red-eye flight Friday night from California at 11 p.m. (PT) and arrived in Columbus just after 6 a.m. (ET) Saturday morning. Just over 13 hours later Ngwenya was starting on the left flank and just over 15 hours later Grabavoy was scoring the game-winner at approximately 9:15 p.m. (ET). Ngwenya played the full 90 minutes and Grabavoy came on as a substitute in the 60th minute and scored the game-winning goal in the 74th minute.


CROATIAN MIDFIELDER LEO BISAKU MAKES CREW DEBUT IN SATURDAY'S WIN AFTER ARRIVING IN COLUMBUS ON WEDNESDAY, MAY 10
Croatian midfielder Leo Bisaku made his Crew debut in Saturday's 1-0 win over Colorado, coming on as a substitute in the 60th minute. Bisaku signed with The Crew on April 4 but didn't arrive in Columbus until Wednesday, May 10, while awaiting his work visa.


CREW SOCCER NATION SPRING SOCCER FESTIVAL

CREW'S U.S. SOCCER FOUNDATION PASSBACK NIGHT IS SATURDAY, JUNE 10
The U.S. Soccer Foundation, in partnership with the Crew, MLS and Eurosport, will be collecting new and gently used soccer equipment at Crew Stadium on June 10 through its Passback program. The equipment collected will then be distributed within our community, to the Columbus Department of Recreation and Parks so that others may enjoy the wonderful sport of soccer. Eurosport will be awarding a $200 gift certificate to the team or individual donating the most equipment and fans are encouraged to gather up those jerseys, shin guards, shoes, socks and soccer balls and bring them to the Crew's 7:30 p.m. game vs. the Kansas City Wizards to "Share the equipment. Share the Game!" Crew goalkeeper Jon Busch serves as the local Passback spokesperson.
