One of the cool things about MLS being in its 20th season is the opportunity to look back at the history of the league and individual teams.
And with the passage of time, some of those involved at the beginning can answer the tough questions: What did you think about the shootout format? Also, what exactly did you make of the team's uniforms in 1996?
Those are two matters discussed in the above video by original New England Revolution defenders Alexi Lalas and Michael Burns, the first two players to join the team back in the day. The pair discussed a great deal about their first year with the Revs, from why they wanted to play in New England to how a promotional poster with the pair ended up being an apt metaphor for the inaugural season.
Burns, now New England's general manager, jokes about how time has changed his looks since 1996, and Lalas, now an analyst on FOX, explained the importance of the Boston bar scene in helping him select the Revolution as his preferred team entering the league's first season.
The pair also discussed their excitement in starting out with MLS from the beginning, and their hopes that it would grow into the league it's become, nearly 20 years later.
All in all, it's a pretty interesting walk down memory lane.
