TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing
The Vancouver Whitecaps have signed midfielder Damiano Pecile to a Homegrown contract, the club announced Friday. He's the club's 22nd academy product to sign a first team contract.
Pecile, 17, is a Canadian youth international, playing every minute for his country at the U-17 World Cup. He originally joined the academy when he was 13-years-old.
“Damiano is a talented young prospect who still has a great deal of room to develop and improve,” Whitecaps sporting director Axel Schuster said in a club statement. “For now, Damiano will continue to play with our Development Squad, as well as our U-19 team. We will continue to evaluate the best options for him, which may include a loan in the coming months should it make sense for his progression.”
The midfielder is Vancouver's third Homegrown signing of the offseason, following Patrick Metcalfe and Gianfranco Facchineri.
“It means everything to me to finally sign my first professional contract,” said Pecile. “I would like to thank my parents, family, coaches, friends, and everyone who has helped me along the way. This is a dream come true.”
