The Vancouver Whitecaps announced on Tuesday that they have re-signed goalkeeper David Ousted to a multi-year contract extension.
Ousted, 31, joined Vancouver in June 2013. The Danish ‘keeper, who finished second in MLS Goalkeeper of the Year voting in 2015, made his Whitecaps debut on August 3, 2013, and has played every minute of MLS competition for the club since then.
"David is one of our leaders in this club and re-signing him was a top priority," Whitecaps head coach Carl Robinson said in a statement released by the club. "He's an integral part of the spine of the team, a character guy in the locker room, and since he joined us he has proven time and time again that he is one of the best, if not the best, goalkeeper in the league. We're thrilled to have him in Vancouver for the long term."
A 2015 MLS All-Star, Ousted helped the Whitecaps finish in a tie for first for fewest goals conceded in MLS last year. He recorded a league-best three penalty saves, finished tied for first in MLS with 13 clean sheets and ended the year second in the league with 16 wins.
"Vancouver has become a second home for my family," Ousted said in the statement. "I am thankful to the fans and club for the commitment and support they have provided since we arrived two and half years ago. I am proud of what we have been able to accomplished and excited about what the future holds."
