The Vancouver Whitecaps hope to climb out of the Western Conference basement and snap a seven-match winless streak when they host a San Jose Earthquakes side Saturday night at BC Place that have one loss in their last nine games.
The Whitecaps (4-10-8) continue to leak goals at an alarming rate, falling to the New England Revolution, 4-0, at Gillette Stadium Wednesday night. It was Vancouver's fourth loss in a row and Marc dos Santos' squad has been outscored, 14-1, during that stretch. Gustavo Bou found net on his debut, a stunning first-time volley in first-half stoppage time, after which the Revs tacked on three more goals late to cruise down the stretch.
The Earthquakes (9-7-4) are coming off a 3-1 win over the LA Galaxy to complete a Cali Clasico season sweep last Friday in Carson. San Jose climbed out of an early one-goal hole to score three unanswered after halftime as Vako and Danny Hoesen scored three minutes apart, before Jackson Yueill added an insurance goal five minutes from full time.
