With one win in their last 11 games, the Vancouver Whitecaps are desperate for three points on Saturday night at BC Place, when they host a D.C. United squad coming off a gritty home win over the LA Galaxy.
The Whitecaps (5-12-9) were unable to build momentum following a 2-1 win at FC Cincinnati and lost to the Portland Timbers 3-1 Saturday night at Providence Park to remain in last place in the Western Conference. Theo Bair canceled out Sebastian Blanco's opening goal with a stunning first MLS tally in the 38th minute, but Marvin Loria and Jeremy Ebobisse struck after halftime to lead the Timbers to a Cascadia Cup victory.
A shorthanded D.C. United (10-7-9) picked up three huge points Sunday night at Audi Field, defeating the LA Galaxy, 2-1. Despite playing without the influential attacking duo of Wayne Rooney and Luciano Acosta, the Black-and-Red dug in defensively to frustrate Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who set an MLS record with 14 shots in the game, but only put one on frame. D.C. were opportunistic with their offensive chances as Paul Arriola and Lucas Rodriguez scored a goal in each half to secure the win.
