The Vancouver Whitecaps will look to play spoilers for a second straight week against a team desperately trying to move above the playoff line when they host Columbus Crew SC Saturday at BC Place.
The Whitecaps (7-15-9) further damaged the Houston Dynamo's hopes of reaching the Audi 2019 MLS Cup Playoffs, winning 2-1 at home Saturday to snap a three-match losing streak. Inbeom Hwang broke the scoreless stalemate from the penalty spot before Mauro Manotas leveled in the 78th minute. The match appeared destined for a draw when second-half substitute Fredy Montero struck at the death to send suffering 'Caps fans home happy.
Crew SC (9-15-7) kept their slim playoff hopes alive with a stunning come-from-behind 3-1 win over Atlanta United at Mercedes-Benz Stadium Saturday night. Gyasi Zardes canceled out Josef Martinez's first-half goal with the 53rd-minute equalizer. Seven minutes later, Luis Diaz scored the go-ahead goal, followed quickly by a Miles Robinson own goal to extend the Columbus unbeaten streak to three games.
