Playing overseas in some of Europe’s top leagues hasn’t stopped a trio of young US men’s national team stars from lending a helping hand to those back home who are impacted by COVID-19.
Weston McKennie, Christian Pulisic and Tyler Adams have teamed up to support Feeding America, a non-profit organization that works with a nationwide network of member food banks. McKennie and Adams are playing in the Bundesliga, respectively, for FC Schalke 04 and RB Leipzig, while Pulisic is in the Premier League with Chelsea.
“I think it’s a really important time that we all need to come together and help those that are really most in need,” Pulisic said in a Twitter video. “Before this coronavirus, there were already 37 million Americans with food insecurity. Obviously, with this virus going around, that’s just going to grow substantially.”
Pulisic and McKennie called on their USMNT teammates and those on the US women’s national team to donate if they’re able to.
“I hope you guys can do your part and help donate anything,” McKennie said in a Twitter video. “Every penny counts, so let’s fight this thing together and let’s win.”
With much of the sports world on pause, the USMNT saw their March games in Europe called off. They were set to face Holland and Wales, while the USWNT games in April against Australia and Brazil were also cancelled.
