By now we all know about Chris Wondolowski's goal scoring antics for the San Jose Earthquakes and, more recently, the US national team.
Well, Chris "Wondowlowki," anyway.
US national team kit man Jesse Bignami screwed up on Friday, there's no two ways around that. But, in doing so, he created one of the more ironic American soccer tales that's probably destined to be talked about for quite some time to come. I'll cut the guy a bit of slack, though; he was probably more worried about fitting all those letters in the designated area than how it was actually spelled.
Given that Wondolowski scored a hat trick in the US's 6-1 thrashing of Belize, superstition prevails and Wondolowski now wants three W's on his jersey for every national team game. But he also wants his name spelled correctly on the back. Solution? Press the now-infamous third W on the inside of the jersey.
Bignami took his flack in stride on Friday, posing for a picture with Wondolowski, his handiwork in hand.
Will three W's translate into three goals every game for Wondolowski? Only time will tell, but aparently we'll get that answer when the US faces Cuba on Saturday afternoon (3:30 p.m. ET).
