The USL announced its 2016 regular season schedule on Tuesday, with the league unveiling a 435-game slate that will begin on Friday, March 25.
Philadelphia Union-owned Bethlehem Steel FC and Montreal Impact-owned FC Montreal will kick off the 2016 campaign, with Montreal playing host to the expansion side at Olympic Stadium. Seattle Sounders 2 will round out the Friday doubleheader, playing host to Sacramento Republic FC at Starfire Sports Complex outside Seattle.
Nine other MLS-operated clubs will be in action on opening weekend, with Orlando City B, Portland Timbers 2, Vancouver Whitecaps 2, LA Galaxy II, Real Monarchs (Real Salt Lake), Swope Park Rangers (Sporting Kansas City) and Rio Grande Valley FC (Houston Dynamo) playing on Saturday before New York Red Bulls II and Toronto FC II face off on Sunday.
The USL regular season will be staged over 27 weeks, with the final day of the season set for Sept. 25. All 29 USL clubs will play a 30-game regular season schedule. The top eight teams from the 14-team Eastern Conference and 15-team Western Conference will then advance to the 2016 USL Playoffs, with four weeks of postseason action set to crown the league’s next champion.
