US youth international winger Konrad de la Fuente has signed a contract extension with Barcelona through 2022, extending his stay with the La Liga powerhouse club.
The deal, according to an ESPN report, comes with a €50 million release that could reach €100 million should he make a first-team debut. De la Fuente, 18, has featured for Barca’s U-19 and B teams this season after helping the US U-20 national team reach the quarterfinals at last year’s FIFA U-20 World Cup.
“I’ve always had clear ideas and my objective is to play for the first team,” the Miami native said in a club-released video.
De la Fuente joined Barca’s La Masia academy in 2014, and has steadily progressed through the youth ranks. He’s set to feature for Barca’s B team in 2020-21, a group that eyes promotion to the Segunda Division when games resume.
De la Fuente, who faces a steep climb towards a first-team debut, has one goal in four Barca B games. He found the back of the net against AE Prat and has also impressed in the UEFA Youth League.
