COMMERCE CITY, Colo. – The Colorado Rapids punched their ticket to the Fifth Round of the US Open Cup with a 1-0 victory over their USL counterparts the Colorado Springs Switchbacks on Tuesday night.
Rapids Homegrown Dillon Serna, who scored a brace in the teams’ matchup in last year’s edition of the tournament, again proved to be the deciding factor this time around. Serna scored the winning goal in the 84th minute, finishing low and true into the Colorado Springs net after a Marco Pappa corner was deflected into the air by Dominique Badji.
The goal highlighted a match in which the Rapids carved out more chances, but struggled to unlock a Switchbacks defense with numbers behind the ball.

SANDY, Utah – Real Salt Lake roared back from a 2-0 second-half deficit to advance in the US Open Cup thanks to a 3-1 penalty-kick shootout win over the Wilmington Hammerheads on Tuesday night at Rio Tinto Stadium.
Wilmington outhustled Salt Lake to a 1-0 halftime advantage before adding another early in the second half. But the USL side were pegged back by a 64th-minute goal from substitute Joao Plata. "Burrito" Martinez found the equalizer in the 87th minute, and neither side was able to score during extra time.
In the shootout, Wilmington missed twice and had another saved by RSL goalkeeper Jeff Attinella. Real Salt Lake finished off three of their four spot kicks to advance to the Fifth Round of the US Open Cup.

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Timbers grabbed an early 2-0 lead on the San Jose Earthquakes via a pair of first-half goals before grinding out a win in the Fourth Round of the US Open Cup on Tuesday night.
Playing in front of a crowd of 16,834 at Providence Park, the defending MLS Cup champions notched their second shutout in as many matches.
Dairon Asprilla opened the scoring for the Timbers in the 34th minute, but it was Jack McInerney's thumping free kick that was the highlight of the match as the Timbers advanced to the next round.

CARSON, Calif. – The LA Galaxy began their 2016 US Open Cup campaign on the front foot, taking a 1-0 lead on semipro side La Maquina FC after 15 minutes thanks to a Jose Villarreal goal. Two minutes later, however, the Galaxy were reduced to 10 men thanks to a straight red card for Rafael Garcia, and the tide turned. La Maquina equalized later in the half, and the sides entered the break at 1-1.
After neither side could find the net in the second half, the match moved to extra time, where a crafty goal by Dave Romney and a brace from substitute Sebastian Lletget led LA to a 4-1 win and passage to the Fifth Round of the tournament.
