U.S. Soccer announced on Thursday that the US national team will host Mexico in a friendly game at Nissan Stadium in Nashville on September 11.
The game, which will come during the first post-World Cup international window of the year, will be the first meeting between the USMNT and Mexico at senior men's level since a 1-1 draw at the Estadio Azteca in World Cup qualifying in June 2017. The cross-border rivals have met 67 times to date, by far the most meetings against any opponent for the USMNT. Mexico lead the all-time series 34-18-15, but the US have the edge in the 21st century, 13-7-6.
The game could take on greater meaning, if the United 2026 World Cup bid between the US, Mexico and Canada is approved by FIFA, a decision that could be made on June 13. The Concacaf nations have banded together to bid for the 2026 tournament, expected to be the largest World Cup in the competition's history.
U.S. Soccer announced that information regarding ticket sales for the September 11 friendly will come at a later date.
