The US men's national team is heading to D.C. United’s Audi Field for the first time this summer.
The game, which is scheduled for June 5 against fellow Concacaf side Jamaica, will serve as a tune-up for this summer’s Gold Cup. The game will mark the first time the USMNT visit the 20,000-seat stadium, which opened in July 2018, though the Black-and-Red’s old home, RFK Stadium, played host to 24 matches for the squad, more so than any other venue stateside.
The US are already scheduled to face Venezuela in another Gold Cup tune-up on June 9. FC Cincinnati’s Nippert Stadium will play host to that match, with official competition beginning the following week. The game against Jamaica will be the first after the USMNT's official 23-man roster for the tournament is submitted.
This friendly between the US and Jamaica could also set up a Gold Cup rematch, as they’re drawn into Group D and Group C, respectively. The winners and runners-up from those two groups will play quarterfinal matches on June 30 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pa.
This summer’s tournament will be the USMNT’s first official competition under head coach Gregg Berhalter. Through four games, they are 3-0-1, and Berhalter will have access to a full contingent of domestic and international player.
As part of Group D, the US will play Panama (June 18 in St. Paul, Minn.), Trinidad and Tobago (June 22 in Cleveland) and Guyana (June 26 in Kansas City, Kan).
The US have won six Gold Cups, most recently in 2017. That's one behind leaders Mexico (seven).
